The biggest change this year is that, in the city, we’re splitting the responsibilities of guarding and rentals. All guards in the city will be LGOs. County will still have dual role positions available. There is also a beach attendant position (just rentals with first AID/CPR certification). Right now, the pay is at $12,5 – $17 but that could change. Both guard positions are still required to have the American Red Cross certification and pass the swim test.
Limit 500m/10min: If pools don’t open and no one can send swim videos before the summer season, we’ll need some kind of log of exercise (running, biking, etc.) to show us that you’re not just sitting on the couch all day. The swim is important and you have to be in a good shape.
All lifeguards must attend weekly in-service training called a surf school – Tuesday (SSBS, CBS), Wednesday (LBS), Thursday (NBS, MARRIOTT and potential Gene’s Beach Service at 77th Ave N). Lifeguards will practice all kind of different scenarios of ocean rescue techniques.
All rookie guards also must attend Rookie school which is going to be after working hours at the beginning of summer (June), rookie school will last 3-4 days approximately 3 hours/day (5.30pm-8.30pm) after working hours and lifeguards are not going to be paid for in-service training.
